A Message from the Chairman

Hello. My name is Ray Pullen and I am currently trying to establish a Kent based disabled shooting squad, predominately (but not exclusively) for ex service personnel.

Over the last few years, I have been working on the England shooting academy (which coaches and supports our Olympic hopefuls for this year 2012), and I have also been working with and coaching disabled shooters one of which competed in China at the last Olympics. It came to my attention whilst working with these shooters that at present the only disabled squad in this country is based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, it has limited resources and tends to be for more elite shooters, and of course is not always practical in terms of travel for people living in Kent or surrounds.

My aim is to give the opportunity for ex disabled service personnel (and others) to try the sport of target shooting, and if liked the support to continue on a frequent basis. I have the support of a local shooting club (where I am chairman) who have agreed that I can use the clubs facilities and firearms to run a pilot scheme to assess the interest and support for such a squad. I am not looking for experienced or elite shooters, but anyone who would simply like to try the sport.

I am currently a regional coach (the highest qualification obtainable in the United Kingdom) and have worked with shooters from local to elite level. I also work as part of the team of three who train and qualify new coaches at both club and county level. More locally level I am Kent County Junior and Senior coach, and as previously mentioned chairman of “The Swalecliffe and District Target Shooting Club”. I have a current CRB certificate with allows me to work with children and vulnerable adults.

Having got all of the infrastructure in place that is required, I am looking for assistance, contacts and connections in publishing this to ex-service personnel, and recruiting some people who might want to try it.

Is this is something you may be able to help with? Or know of someone / organisation who may be able to help?

To date, I have contacted both the Kent branches of SSAFA and The Royal British Legion with some success. I realise you cannot disclose any individual details for both data protection and the security of our service personnel, but I am happy for you to contact me using the email facility at the bottom of the main web page, of any one you feel may be interested.

Many thanks for your help,

Ray Pullen
